It's pumpkin season and the Greenbelt will have their very best on display at this yearly family festival. Go pumpkin picking, meet the horses from the city Parks department, learn about the local flora and fauna, and more! Stop by at 2 p.m. for a pumpkin-side performance by Music with Patrick.

Head on over to this massive science center in Jersey City for special Halloween exhibits and activities. Its popular Spider Maze is a 4,000-square-foot web maze that is guaranteed not scary—no jumping spiders at all. Visitors solve puzzles as they move through the maze and learn about arachnids in the process. Big kids can climb an eight-foot haystack, while little ones can navigate a hay maze. Additional weekend activities include an indoor pumpkin patch ($2 donation), a petting zoo, ballistic apple picking (use a bow and arrow to knock apples out of a tree)—plus tasty fall treats like apple cider a pumpkin spice baked goods. The Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling is bringing Halloween fun and magic to families on not one but two days! 

The big fun happens on Sunday, October 27, when activities include mysterious stories, a pumpkin patch, costume making and a slime library. The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus stops by for a spooktacular 45-minute Vampire Variety Show with Count Keith. Over at the museum's Heather Hart's exhibition, "The Oracle of Amplitude", kids can take part in a hands-on circus skill workshop. 

Then, on Halloween, the museum hosts more holiday fun with spooky stories and costume-making.

Spooks on at the New York Botanical Garden until Oct 31, when the winding trails of the children's garden gets decorated with carved pumpkins, gourds and more. Special events and activities happen all month long, including potting up a ghostly dusty miller plant to take home, investigating a mysterious Victorian playhouse, and putting on a own bone-rattling puppet show. Meet creatures like snakes and bats at Noon and 2 p.m. the weekends of October 12, 19 and 26th and catch the carving face-off weekend on Oct. 19 and 20, or Giant Pumpkin Weekend Oct. 26 and 27.

Over 7,000 jack o' lanterns make the Great Blaze an amazing spectacle to behold. Pumpkins adorn just about everything, from the windmill to a pumpkin Statue of Liberty. Behold pumpkin owls, castles, a sea serpent, and other incredible sights — all hand-carved. We recommend that you buy your ticket online ahead of time, as there's a $2 per ticket fee for tickets bought on-site or over the phone.

Wander among pumpkin works of art on an illuminated path to fun and festive music, check out live pumpkin carving demonstrations and sculpted pumpkins,  and see New York's harbor at night!  Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Queens County Farm gives you plenty of reasons to visit this fall!

Its Children's Halloween Festival invites people to don their favorite costume and come on down to the farm, where they can Two-step to live country western music, take a hayride,  and enjoy pony rides and a seasonal petting zoo. Navigate The Amazing Maize Maze,  and then check out the Con Edison Ecology booth for recycling tips and get crafty with the farm's educators.

For a fun scare, try the haunted house, recommended for kids ages 6-12.

And stop by on weekends through October 26 to pick a pumpkin out from the farm's large pumpkin patch. Exploring the patch is free, but purchasing a pumpkin can cost anywhere between $4 and $50, depending on the size.

Create a floating jack o' lantern display in Central Park's Harlem Meer. Pumpkins for the flotilla are BYO so come with the best pumpkin you can find (here are some handy guidelines) and spend an evening carving it together and show off your costumes. Additional fun includes arts and crafts, storytelling, and an expert carver. The big finale is sending the pumpkins on to the water and watching them light up the evening.
