There are so many Halloween Happenings in the DMV this month, it’s hard to pick just a few. We’ve highlighted some of our favorites, from an early Day of the Dead celebration to a toddler-friendly parade to the chance to walk among the dead. Or take a break from all the sugar-laden stuff and check out sheer eye-candy at 29Rooms. Happy (almost) Halloween!

IN THE CITY Capitol Hill
29Rooms
Refinery29 is taking its annual immersive festival of style, culture and creativity, 29Rooms, on a five-city tour including its first international showing. The 29Rooms: Expand Your Reality experience will bring the iconic immersive event to DC for the first time. Fri.-Sun. Event details.
Hilloween
Hilloween is a Capitol Hill tradition along Eastern Market. There will be bouncy houses, food and drink for purchase and plenty of goodies for children and adults. Bring a bag! Fri. Event details.
Soul Strolls
Wouldn’t be caught dead in a cemetery any time, but especially not around Halloween? Reconsider. Take an annual twilight tour and hear the stories from one of the Dozen Decent Docents of the people buried at Congressional Cemetery, a National Historic Landmark. The hour-long tours leave every 15 minutes. Fri. Event details.

Dia De Los Muertos Family Day
Celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Enjoy Mexican folk dance performances throughout the day, a live Mariachi band, and face painting! Leave your handmade ofrendas (offerings) including paper marigolds, calaveras (skull masks), and paper monarch butterflies on our beautiful Day of the Dead altar. Sat. Event details.

Family Friendly Pancake Battle
Bring your appetite for a festive brunch fundraiser at Nationals Park celebrating education and family. Enjoy pancake masterpieces from the region’s leading “education celebrities,” vote for your favorite, enjoy games and family-friendly activities, and bid on amazing silent auction items—all while supporting Generation Hope’s mission to change the lives of young families through educational attainment. IN THE ‘BURBS Del Ray
Del Ray Halloween Parade
The 23rd annual event will give out prizes for best pet costume, best decorated business, best decorated home and best decorated stroller. More than 7,500 people participated in years past, so get those ideas flowing. At the end of the route, kids get goodie bags, although healthy options without candy are available. Sun. Event details.
Boostravaganza at Frying Pan Farm Park
Spend an evening playing games, enter the Boo Barn and take a wagon ride around the farm’s grounds. Remember to stop at the playground and visit with the resident animals, including a peacock, turkeys, goats, chickens, cows and horses. Reservations required. Fri. Event details.
Cabin John
Eye Spy Halloween Train
Ideal for kiddos 8 & younger, the miniature train at Cabin John and the Wheaton Miniature Train and Ovid Hazen Wells Carousel will be decked out as “Trainsylvania.” Sat. Event details.
WORTH-THE-DRIVE Baltimore
Toddler Time Halloween Parade
Start your weekend early with a drive to B’more. Have a spooktacular (toddler) time at this Halloween-themed event at the B&O Railroad Museum. Enjoy Alice Schertle’s Little Blue Truck’s Halloween during storytime followed by a make-your-own monster grab bag craft. The event ends with a costume parade and trick-or-treating. This program starts promptly at 10:30 am in the Museum’s Roundhouse. Thurs. Event details.
Middle River
Trunk-or-Treat at Bengie’s
Trunk-or-Treaters will spend the evening going from trunk to trunk, collecting candy from vehicle owners who have decorated their vehicles. Immediately following Trunk-or-Treating, Bengie’s will judge costumes and trunks. Then enjoy a show at an authentic drive-in movie theater! Participating “Trunkers” be sure to decorate your trunk, tailgate or hatchback and provide candy for the “treaters.” Sat. Event details.
