Six Must Visit Atlanta Eats

1. The Optimist

914 Howell Mill Road
Atlanta,  Georgia 30318
Tel: 404-477-6260
The optimist The YUCATAN

An absolutely decadent meal with lots of fresh seafood options, this restaurant features Latin-inspired flavors and a self-proclaimed “fish camp” vibe. The cocktails are a must! I love the Yucatan, a combination of tequila blanco, agricole rhum blanc, green tea, agave, lime. For appetizers the smoked fish dip with house made saltines was incredible, and the hush puppies made beignet style were absolutely phenomenal. But the star of the show were the whole prawn a la plancha with arbol butter and sopping toast. My only complaint was it needed more sopping toast but we just drank the sauce and I would do it again. Honestly, you can’t go wrong. This was my favorite restaurant that I went to in Atl.

2. Bacchanalia (by starprovisions)

This fine dining restaurant is an entire experience and a great one at that. French style cuisine served in a 4 course prix fixe menu. You choose your picks from each course and they are brought out in perfect rhythm. The menu changes based on seasonality of the ingredients, but I went straight for seafood, starting with the perfectly cooked morsels of lobster, followed by scallops with sugar snap peas. The goat cheese third course with roasted beets was absolutely divine and for dessert I went with the lemon meringue. Go with friends and share! Reservations required to get a seat!

3. South City Kitchen

The best brunch experience! The absolutely divine king biscuits served with eggs, gouda and local ham and a scallion sausage gravy are a must, but the Georgia peach salad with arugula, marinated vidalia onions, spiced pecans, and clabber cream was the surprise winner. Or maybe the fried green tomatoes with the goat cheese and red pepper coulis.  And don’t miss the perfectly fried chicken and waffles. In other words you can’t go wrong.  Reservations recommended or come early to get a seat at the bar.

This boozy drink and delicious sandwich bar with an old school diner vibe is a must visit in Atl. Do not miss the whiskey coke slushie. I loved the vegetarian “Beeter”, with pastrami beets, kimchi and thai mayo on rye and the Porkemon, a pulled pork sandwich with soy-ginger slaw and Korean bbq sauce.

Great outdoor and indoor dining space features great food and drink served with Southern hospitality. The bucket of fries with a selection of dipping sauces is a great snack or try the mussels with chorizo, shaved fennel and grilled baguette. The fish and grits are another must, featuring cornmeal fried trout belly, grits, brown butter bouillabaisse, house old bay, scallion. Again this is another place where you can’t go wrong.
